Biblical Absurdities

Abomination!

Prov. 15:26: "Evil plans are an abomination to the LORD.”

Yet god himself makes evil plans?

Exo. 32:14 “And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.” Jer. 18:11 “Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you.”, etc.

Is god an abomination unto himself?  That might explain all the anger and violence;  self-disgust often leads to anger displacement on others – maybe that is why he created some people as “objects of wrath” (Rom. 9:22)!

God = Corrupt Tree?

1 Sam. 16: 14 – 15: “Now the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him.  Saul's attendants said to him, ‘See, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you.’” Isa. 45:7 “I make peace and create evil. I the Lord do all these things.” Lam. 3:38 "Dost not out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth evil and good?"

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. (MTH 7:17)

God isn’t an EOE.

What a bummer, first god creates you deformed, then to add insult to injury doesn’t allow you to enter his sanctuary! If a crippled person, hunchback or any other person with an anomaly should enter the sanctuary, god says he will desecrate it with his mere presence. Can you feel the love? The Bible also tells us that god selects and creates some with disabilities, sounds a little unfair… Exodus 4:21 “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD?”

Leviticus 21:16-23: “The LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron: ‘For the generations to come none of your descendants who has a defect may come near to offer the food of his God. No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed; no man with a crippled foot or hand, or who is hunchbacked or dwarfed, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles. No descendant of Aaron the priest who has any defect is to come near to present the offerings made to the LORD by fire. He has a defect; he must not come near to offer the food of his God. He may eat the most holy food of his God, as well as the holy food; yet because of his defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar, and so desecrate my sanctuary. I am the LORD, who makes them holy.’” Someone needs to call the EOC…

Lost your penis?  No church for you!

Deuteronomy 23:1 "No one who is emasculated or has his male organ cut off shall enter the assembly of the LORD.” [NASB] Alternatively, “He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD. [KJV]”

Strange, you can’t enter the church if you’ve lost your “member”.  Yet in the gospels Jesus encourages men to become eunuchs (Mat. 19:11-12)?  And in Rev. we learn about god’s 144,000 member choir of male virgins; so if you cut if off – you can’t enter his assembly – but if you keep it and don’t use it you might get into his choir?

Solomon’s got the whole world:

1 Kings 10:24 “The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.”

God speaks to people through an ass (and we’re not talking about Pat Robertson, here):

Numbers 22:22-33 “And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.  And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?  And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.  And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay. Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.”

The Foreskin Savior

Exodus 4: 24- 26 “At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met [Moses] and was about to kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son's foreskin and touched [Moses'] feet with it. So the LORD let him alone.”

Kill a servant, sure… so long as they die a day or two later!

Exodus 21: 20-21 "If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property.”

Godly castration:

Matthew 19 11-12 “But he said to them, "Not all men can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it."

Eunuch: A man who has been castrated. The Scholar's Version has: "There are castrated men who castrated themselves because of Heaven's imperial rule. If you are able to accept this (advice), do so." KJV has it as well. Notice how NIV changes the last part of the verse: “For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."” Somehow, they pull renounce marriage from eunuch, yet numerous other translates agree it is eunuch, or castrated. People around the world have actually done this to be more in-line with Biblical teaching.

God plays with a man’s life – for no reason…

Job 2:3 “Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason."

Who and Abel?

God mark’s Cain so that he’ll be recognized by other people – but there are only three other people alive at this time (and they’re his relatives)!  Let’s see your Adam, then there’s Eve, and you are who, again? This is all so hard to remember!  Who’s going to kill Cain, his children?

Genesis 4:15  But the LORD said to him, "Not so; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.

Exodus 34:14 “Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”

No wonder he hasn’t answered my prayers, I haven’t used the right name… The name "Jehovah" is a Christian mistake. It was forbidden to pronounce the name "YHWH" and readers of the Hebrew scriptures were supposed to say "Adonai" in its place. "In written texts the vowels of Adonai were combined with the consonants YHWH to remind readers to pronounce Adonai instead of Yahweh. The incorrect hybrid, 'Jehovah,' arose from Christian misunderstanding in the late Middle Ages."

Fiancé not a virgin? Stone her to death!

Deuteronomy 22:13-21

Women should keep quiet!!

I Timothy 2:12 “do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.”

Actually, I’d have to agree with that one…

Only male virgins in god’s choir!

Rev. 14:1-4

and they sung as it were a new song before the throne, … and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand,… which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins.”

If heaven’s choir will be composed of 144,000 male virgins, will hell’s choir be 144,000 female virgins? – If so, I definitely want to go there!

Things Jesus tells us to do:

 *   Don't plan for the future. (Matthew 6:34)

*   Don't save money. (Matthew 6:19-20)

*   Don't become wealthy. (Mark 10:21-25)

*   Sell everything and give it to the poor. (Luke 12:33)

*   Don't work to obtain food. (John 6:27)

*   Don't have sexual urges. (Matthew 5:28)

*   Make people want to persecute you. (Matthew 5:11)

*   Let everyone know you are better than the rest. (Matthew 5:13-16)

*   Take money from those who have no savings and give it to rich investors. (Luke 19:23-26)

*   If someone steals from you, don't try to get it back. (Luke 6:30)

*   If someone hits you, invite them to do it again. (Matthew 5:39)

*   If you lose a lawsuit, give more than the judgment. (Matthew 5:40)

*   If someone forces you to walk a mile, walk two miles. (Matthew 5:41)

*   If anyone asks you for anything, give it to them without question. (Matthew 5:42)

Child Eating…

2 Kings 6:26-30: "Now as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, a woman cried out to him, saying, "Help, my lord, O king!" And he said, "If the Lord will not help you, whence shall I help you? From the threshing floor, or from the wine press?" And the king asked her, "What is your trouble?" She answered, "This woman said to me, 'Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.' So we boiled my son, and ate him. And on the next day I said to her, 'Give your son, that we may eat him'; but she has hidden her son." When the king heard the words of the woman he rent his clothes. . . And while [Elisha] was still speaking with them, the king came down to him and said, ‘This trouble is from the Lord! . . .’ "

The tenth, and most profound commandment, cooking a goat!

Exodus 34: 26 "(#9) Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God.” (#10) "Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk." The first time Moses came down from Mount Sinai with commandments, he merely recited a list (Exodus 20:2-17), which is the version most churches today erroneously call the "Ten Commandments," although they were not engraved on stone tablets and not called "the ten commandments." The first set of stone tablets was given to Moses at a subsequent trip up the mountain (Exodus 31:18). In this farcical story, Moses petulantly destroyed those tablets when he saw the people worshipping the golden calf (Exodus 32:19). So he went back for a replacement.

God told Moses: "Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest." (Exodus 34:1) Here is what was on the replacement tablets (from Exodus 34:14-26): Thou shalt worship no other God. 2) Thou shalt make thee no molten gods. 3) The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. 4) Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest. 5) Thou shalt observe the feast of weeks. 6) Thrice in the year shall all your menchildren appear before the Lord God. 7) Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven. 8) Neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left until the morning. 9) The first of the firstfruits of thy land shalt thou bring unto the house of the Lord thy God. 10) Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk. [KJV]

Cruel Punishment

The infinite punishments of finite sins aside, throughout the bible there are numerous instances of cruel punishment and excessive cruelty dealt out by the god of the bible. The following is a list of some of them:

Bear Eating Children:

2 Kings 2:23-24 “From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.”

God kills the women and children alike:

Hosea 13:16 “their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up”

Corruption of seeds and dung:

Malachi 2: 3-4:  “Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it. And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.”

Child Robbing Animals and Desolate People:

Leviticus 26:22  “I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.”

Eat your kids:

Lev. 26: 28, 29: "Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat."

Incurable Disease:

2 Chronicles 21:18 “After all this, the Lord afflicted Jehoram with an incurable disease of the bowels.”

An assortment of sorrows:

Indeed, throughout Leviticus god not only resorts to the hideous children eating, but tells them if they do not do as he says he will appoint over them "terror, consumption, burning ague, sorrow of heart". They will "sow their seed in vain, be slain before their enemies.."  God says he'll send pestilence among them, animals to rob them of their children, and then our favorite - that they'll have to eat their own children. God then goes on to say that he would rather have a land desolate with everyone dead - than have these people not recognize the Sabbath!  (Lev. 26:14-38).

50000 die due to 5

I Samuel 6: The ark of the Lord passes by a town.  Outside the town, 5 farmers “rejoice to see it”. They praise god, make burnt offerings and open the ark for their worship service to god.  In return, God “smote the men of Bethshemesh because they had looked into the ark of the Lord, even he smote of the people fifty thousand.”  Here, because 5 people look in the ark - god kills the 50,000 people of the city.

Kids misbehaving? Stone them to death!

Deuteronomy 21:18-21, Exodus 21:1, Leviticus 20:9

Favoritism?

The Bible states that God shows no favoritism to people (Acts 10:34; Deut. 10:17; Rom. 2:11; Gal. 2:6: Eph. 6:9; Col. 3:25; 1 Peter 1:17), but it also states that Yahweh selected one people "above all people on the face of the earth" to be his chosen people (Deut. 7:6). That hardly sounds like indiscriminate, unbiased impartiality.  The Old Testament is filled with merciless atrocities that Yahweh presumably did himself, or commanded his chosen people to commit against non-Hebraic people. In Deuteronomy 7:3, he commanded the Israelites to invade Canaan and "utterly destroy" the people living there and "show no mercy to them." Joshua 10:40 and 11:11 state that the Israelites obeyed these orders by utterly destroying the people in the Canaanite cities and left nothing alive to breathe. Joshua 11:15, 20 declares that in doing these things, they were merely obeying what Yahweh had commanded Moses. God also commands people’s utter destruction in I Samuel 15:2,3,7,8.  Maybe these non-Hebraic people were worshiping other gods, or living against Yahweh’s laws – but how many times had the Hebrews done the same?  Why didn’t god “utterly destroy” them with “no mercy”?  Because they were the “chosen” people?

The same god said in Romans “before they were born, before they did right or wrong, Jacob I loved and Esau I hated.” Sounds like god favored Jacob, just a wee bit…

Killing the innocent

Is god acceptable even to his owns laws?  [Ex 20:13; Deut 27:25; Exo 23:7] Do not kill the innocent. [Ex 23:7; Deut 10:17; Ps 15:5; Ezek 22:12] Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to strike down an innocent person.

Then god not only kills innocent children in Noah’s flood, Sodom’s destruction, the Israelite’s captivity, but also orders for it to be done in Hosea 13 “their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.” In I Samuel 15:2-8 God orders “..spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass..”  Where these infants not innocent?  Were they hell-bent, malicious criminals in diapers? In the bible he makes various threats to rob people of their children whether by disease, wild animals or invading enemies.  It seems god’s laws apply to all but him.

God and his children:

I Samuel 6:19 " . . . and the people lamented because the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter."

I Samuel 15:2,3,7,8 "Thus saith the Lord . . . Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling..”

Numbers 15:36 "And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses."
